The Missing Piece of Skippack is Back!
The story of Skippack Pharmacy is one that goes back to 1968, when the pharmacy first became a staple in the Skippack area. In 2013, the pharmacy went through a change in ownership and soon enough was sold to a major chain down the street. Thus, Skippack had closed its doors for the first time after nearly 50 years of business, something no one had ever imagined. On one day patients were coming in to get their medications and without any notice the next day they were welcomed to red signs which were placed in the store’s windows stating that their prescriptions had been transferred. This was not the Skippack that people had been coming to for decades and people were not happy.
That is when Dr. Mayank Amin, locally born and raised entrepreneur and pharmacist, stepped in. Working at Walgreens at the time, Amin left work one night seeing a sign on their readerboard “Welcome Skippack Pharmacy Patients.” Sure, the sign was welcoming but locals wanted to support local, not a chain, and Amin heard about this through extensive surveys, talks with local residents/shop owners, and previous employees. It did not take long before Amin decided to move forward and bring back what Skippack had been missing. Not only did he bring the pharmacy back, he has brought back “the girls,” Bonnie, Jean and Margaret, who have been serving patients here for decades.
Growing up working at his father’s businesses including the area’s first dollar store in the 90’s in Harleysville, Amin values the importance of customer service and innovation. When redesigning the look of the pharmacy and service offerings, Amin put a lot of thought and research into what is now the new and improved, Skippack Pharmacy.
As of January 2019, the pharmacy is in full swing 7 days a week, re-welcoming patients who had been shifted to CVS Pharmacy and welcoming new patient families who look for a pharmacy experience they won’t find elsewhere. The new pharmacy also houses “Skippack Party Center,” a one-stop shop for party supplies, helium balloons, greeting cards, dollar items, lottery, and more. The pharmacy provides free delivery throughout Montgomery County, immunization/compounding services, free medication adherence packaging, at-home patient pharmacist visits, and a variety of other patient-centric services. Skippack Pharmacy accepts all insurances including CVS Caremark and will match or beat prices from chains. Transferring your prescriptions is simple - stop in or give them a call & your medications will be ready in 5 minutes or less!
Skippack’s story is one of inspiration in this age of ever-closing small businesses. The sense of determination and the passion to serve for the greater good of others will never go out of business.
